Yes, the outside filter can be removed and cleaned (lightly vacuum or hand-wash). The inside filter still has a prefilter that is made over the HEPA with crushed carbon on it. This 2nd prefilter is not removable but can be lightly vacuumed.
Extra prefilters can be purchased also here if you want to have one to trade out when you are cleaning it.
